YOUNG gymnasts from across South Ayrshire put on a spectacular show at the Council’s annual Learn 2 Gymnastics display in Ayr recently.

More than 400 gymnasts were at the Citadel to demonstrate their skills with an abundance of floor displays, vaulting and beam work and all in front of an enthusiastic audience of family and friends.

The gymnasts from Mossblown, Coylton, Muirhead, Whitletts and from the Citadel, all took part in the Council’s Learn 2 Gymnastics programme which has classes for beginners through to advanced level.

The event was also an opportunity to present each of the groups with awards for: Most improved gymnast, Class gymnast of the year and Achievement award

Scottish Gymnastics Proficiency Badges were also presented following the display and the South Ayrshire Gymnastics Club received tremendous applause as they showed off their talents as well.

Councillor Brian McGinley, Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: “This was a great event and I was impressed with how well the gymnasts performed, they should all be very proud. We are working to promote the benefits of healthy living in our communities and the popularity of our Learn 2 programmes such as gymnastics is evidence that we’re moving in the right direction.

“The Council’s Learn 2 programmes are available to everyone and are a great way to get active, try new sports and make friends. From archery and athletics to walking football there’s something for everyone so why not give it a go, it could make a big difference to your health and wellbeing.”
