AFTER the hectic round of racing last week, members of Ayr Roads Harry Fairbairn were more inclined to enjoy the sunshine and relax in the spectacular scenery of Ayrshire over the weekend.

However, on Sunday, club chairman Alex McAllister travelled to Freuchie in Fife to take part in the Alistair Speed Memorial 50 mile TT.

The conditions were good and Alex finished in an excellent time of 2 hours 6 minutes 33 seconds, claiming the Vet 60 prize.

Kyle Gordon of RT23 won the competition in a time of 1 hour 47 minutes.

Paul Rodwell headed north to Balfron to take part in the Glasgow Ivy CC road race, on a testing route over the Duke’s Pass and Trossachs roads. Unfortunately Paul didn’t finish due to an injury during the race. Grant Martin of Vitus cycling took the win.

Club members Duncan McArthur and Kenny Scott completed the 16 Ayrshire Alps ride, organised by Ayr Burners, taking a slightly different route to that of Ayr Roads earlier this month.

Duncan went the extra mile, doing the Wallacetown Alp again in order to get home - 17 Alps to go one better than everyone else!

In the club's weekly evening 10 mile time trial, 12 riders took part in windy conditions. Calum MacDonald recorded the fastest time of 22.06, followed by Michael Curran, on his first club outing of the year with 22.36, then Harry Brawley in 22.52. Other times recorded are Archie Arthurs 25.41, Gordon Fields 28.01, John Gemmell 25.47, Duncan McArthur 23.42, Jody Gerrard 24.02, Scott Knox 23.11, Aileen Fisher 26.26, Alex McAllister 23.06 and Craig Allison 22.55.

The midweek bunch ventured north to Largs, going out by Kilwinning, Dalry and the Hailey Brae and home via the coast, a distance of 60 miles.

Sunday’s club run made the most of the glorious weather when a group of riders cycled south to Ballantrae, where they enjoyed a coffee in the sunshine, via the Assel Valley and returned by the coast.
