REIGNING Western Premier Division champions Prestwick got back on track following their surprise opening day defeat.

They hosted Croma Vigilant Dumfries and the visitors won the toss and elected to bat.

One of the openers, Andrew Dawson made a good start, hitting 38 before being bowled by Sachin Chaudhary who also picked up the wicket of Stuart Corbett-Buyers.

Further wickets were taken by Ross Paterson, Chaudhary and Jacob Steber, although the most resistance came from Scott Beveridge, who was 59 not out as Dumfries ended their innings on 168-8 off 50 overs.

Chaudhary finished with 4-14 off 10 overs and Steber took 3-19.

Home skipper Rafiq was dismissed for 19 but Fasal Jawad and Fraser MacDonald put on 30 for the second wicket, with the former firing 26 and the latter 40.

Scotland international Mitchell Rao and Tom Fleet then put on a partnership of around 70 as the home side secured a six-wicket win.

Later Rafiq said: "It was a much better performance than last time although we have to improve on the likes of bowling and fielding. But that will come in the midweek games within the next few weeks as well as the Saturday matches."

Meanwhile rivals Ayre suffered a bitterly disappointing weekend. They suffered a crushing 173-run win at Ferguslie in the Western Premier Division on Saturday, The hosts hit 242-5 in 50 overs and Ayr were dismissed for a meagre 69.

On Sunday they faced Grange at home in a Scottish Cup tie. The hosts were 220 for 8 in 50 overs, but the Edinburgh side were 221-3 in reply, giving them a weven-wicket win.
