CONFIDENT Maybole manager Carlo Walker firmly believes his team can achieve promotion after a vital weekend victory.

'Bole defeated promotion rivals Ardrossan Winton Rovers for a second time this season, with the result taking them into second spot, ahead of local rivals Craigmark Burntonians on goal difference.

They are two points adrift of leaders Irvine Victoria, but the leaders have two games in hand.

With the top four automatically moving up to the Championship under re-structuring, Maybole are well placed to make progress back to the second tier of the junior game.

A delighted Walker told Sportscene: "It was an important win for us. Winton had been going well but we totally dominated the game and deserved to win. We could had have won by even more had we taken some of our other chances. We pushed three players up front late on in the game."

Walker is delighted with the team's progress and said: "Our new signing, Chris Campbell, who is loan this season is doing really well and Nathan Baird, who was also with us last season is also a key player and our recent signing Greig Mitchell has made a difference since he came in. We have a strong squad and I really feel we are in with a good chance of promotion, that has to be our target."

Maybole on Saturday are in in derby action.

They will take on a Whitletts Victoria side who will be galvanised by the appointment of new manager George Grierson.

Walker said: "It was a good result at the weekend. But this is a home game and we must look to take the three points."
