LEAGUE One leaders Ayr United are going all out to end 2017 on a high with a home win against Forfar Athletic on Saturday.

Then three days later they are relishing the prospect of ringing in the New Year with a visit to Stair Park for a clash with Forfar Athletic.

Skipper Ross Docherty and boss Ian McCall are positively relishing the two games which could be pivotal in their bid for promotion.

Docherty, who hopes to be back from a hip injury, said: "We havc been doing well in our home games, but this will be our last match of 2017 at Somerset Park, so hopefully we can make it a great day for the fans by taking all three points."

He expects a stiff test against the Blues and added: "Our attention will turn to Tuesday as soon as Saturday's over. We always seem to have a difficult game against Stranraer and it's a wee bit away but the fans all see it as a derby. Stranraer always seem to play well against regardless or how our form is and they will be up for it. But out target is to take the three points."

McCall hopes to close out the old year on a high on Saturday and said: "Hopefully we will get a really good crowd and the fans will come out in good numbers for the last game of the year. It's an important period but like every other game there's only three points at stake. Teams are upping their game against us and I said to Darren Young at East Fife the games can be quite tight. We must look to win on Saturday and then prepare for the Stranraer game when we will hopefully take three points."
