TWO teenage tennis aces were smash hits at a world-famous event last month.

Jack Dickson (19) from Troon and Prestwick's Frances Smiley (18), flew the flag for South Ayrshire at the Special Olympics in Sheffield.

Frances won gold in the Ladies Singles in her division and Jack won gold in the Men’s Singles in his division and together they went on to win the gold in the Mixed Doubles event at The Special Olympics 10th National Summer Games, which were held in Sheffield.

As well as playing tennis both Frances and Jack swim at Prestwick Pool every Tuesday night with South Ayrshire Swim Team (coach Gary Craig and Katie Campbell). They also manage to fit in swimming competitions.

They both train at Prestwick Tennis and Fitness Club on Sundays with Dave Gee and Michael Groves coaching. Both also train with the Glasgow squad on a Thursday at Scotstoun in Glasgow with Leslie Whitehead coaching.

The duo have done a lot of fundraising to help with costs including a Millport Challenge and running 5k’s in Glasgow.

Jack and Frances were delighted to receive £100 South Ayrshire Sports Council and £200 from South Ayrshire Sportsability to also help with cost of their participation in the event.

Also they have been honoured by being invited to a civic reception in Glasgow in October following their success and have been invited to apply for the World Games in Abu Dhabi in 2019.

As well as fitting all this in both Jack and Frances are currently studying at Ayr College.
