NORTH Yorkshire-based trainer Roger Fell and jockey Tony Hamilton landed a double at Ayr Racecourse’s totepool Family Day on Sunday.

Two For Two, just beaten a nose in the same race last year, won the feature race the Class 3 one-mile handicap carrying top weight at odds of 7-1.

Held up in last place by Hamilton the nine year-old was produced on the outside two furlongs out and led inside the final furlong and was driven out to win by a head from Finn Class.

The Fell-Hamilton double had been initiated half an hour earlier in the Bet totetrifecta at betfred.com handicap, also over a mile, when Zodiakos, a 13-2 chance, won comfortably by a length and three quarters from the Ruth Carr trained Abushamah

Two Newmarket trainers were among the winners. John Gosden sent the highly thought of Pouvoir Magique on the 700-mile round trip to win the opening maiden comfortably at the prohibitive odds of 1-12 in the hands of James Doyle and this colt could now go for the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York next month.

David Lanigan and jockey Paul Mulrennan teamed up with Take A Turn, sent off at 11-2, to win Division Two of the Bet totequadpot At betfred.com Handicap over one mile two furlongs by a neck from Never Say.

Another impressive winner was Nothing To Say, who came with a wet sail to win the seven furlong handicap at odds of 6-4 under a fine ride from former two time champion jockey Paul Hanagan for Irish-based trainer John McConnell.

And there was a touch of déjà vu on the final race on the card, the amateur riders’ handicap won by Perfect Words, 11-4 favourite, for trainer Marjorie Fife and jockey Becky Smith as the same horse, trainer and jockey partnership won this race last year.
