GUTTED Troon FC boss Gordon Burns admitted it would be "very difficult" for his side to survive after they lost their final home league game.

The Seasiders went down 4-2 to Scottish Junior Cup holders Beith despite taking a 2-0 lead in the must-win fixture.

They remain in bottom spot, two points behind Largs Thistle, over whom they a game in hand and Kilwinning Rangers, who have played one game fewer.

Burns said: "When I woke up on Sunday I felt gutted and quite flat. We started well taking a 2-0 lead, albeit through errors made by the Beith goalkeeper and Ryan Nisbet had a good opportunity to put us 3-0 up. They scored before half-time but at least we still had the lead.

"But the second half was really poor. We suffered a blow when Midge Ure went off but Adam Forsyth missed a great one-on-one chance when it was 3-3. Ryan got sent off for what was a silly second booking and that didn't help us and we conceded a penalty. That game pretty much sums up our season."

He added: "We have made it very difficult for ourselves to stay up and it's not in our hands. We have to win our last two games away to Glenafton and Auchinleck and hope Kilwinning slip up to have a chance of getting into the playoff."

Troon tonight (Wednesday) are gearing up for an Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup second round clash with champions Auchinleck Talbot.

Burns said: "We want to go progress as this is a trophy we have won before. I know Talbot have a lot of fish to fry with the league and Scottish Junior Cup final but will be up for it."
