JUBILANT Troon FC boss Gordon Burns hailed his side for producing their best performance of the season.

They swept aside Glenafton Athletic 3-0 at Loch Park to power into the third round of the New Coin Holdings West of Scotland Cup.

It was just the second defeat at home for the East Ayrshire side this season, following their loss against Cumnock in the Ardagh Glass League Cup back in September.

The boss had particular praise for midfielder Ross McCrea, who was making his first start since breaking his leg in September and said: "Ross had a great game in midfield, flying into tackles and working really hard, he has done well to come back from injury. I also thought Adam Forsyth played really well, making some tackles and scoring a great goal."

Added Burns: "That was our most complete performance of the season and the secret of the win was that everyone played to their potential. Glenafton have a very good home record, so it was great to go there and win. I'm sure if we keep playing like that we will improve in the league and can hopefully go on a good run in the West of Scotland and Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup."

Meanwhile Troon have no game on Saturday as scheduled opponents Kirkintilloch Rob Roy are in Scottish Junior Cup action.

Burns said: "It's disappointing we don't have a fixture as this result would have given us momentum. But hopefully we will have a league game the following week."

Meanwhile striker and former Ayr United youngster Ross Robertson has been transfer-listed by the Seasiders by mutual agreement.

Robertson signed in June after three seasons at Hurlford United, having begun his career at Ayr United.

General Manager Jimmy Kirkwood said: "Ross is a great lad and it's disappointing for all concerned that things just haven't worked out."
