AYR Storm men's second team started the second half of their season by picking up their first win in SLBA Division Three.

Playing the fixture at Belmont Academy, instead of the usual Queen Margaret Academy, Ayr's Achraf Lamiri was first to adapt to the larger court and used the space to go on numerous 1 v 1 drives and rack up eight points in the first period.

Strong defence by Storm ensure the first period was won 14:10.

In Kivanc Altin the Lions had last season's Division Four top scorer, and he found his shooting range and helped pull Dunoon back into the game and win Period Two 13-8 to lead by one at half-time.

The third period saw new signing, UWS student Jonas Dotzer, show the form he had displayed in his first training session - as he hit three three-pointers in a row deep from the corner to help the home side take a five-point lead.

The game though was to come down to the final 20 seconds - with it all tied up at 55-55.

Coach Kevan McCrorie called a final time out and set up a play to go for the winning basket, while ensuring no time left for Dunoon to steal a win.

A first illegal dribble call of the game threw the plans out the window and Dunoon had the chance for the final shot of normal time.

From the inbound play, Dotzer anticipated where the ball was going, made the interception and broke to the other end to make the layup with five seconds on the clock.

Martin Henderson then forced a steel and dribbled the remaining time of the clock to give the Men's second team a first win of the season. FT: Ayr Storm 57 Dunoon Lions 55.

Team: A Lamiri (21pts) J Dotzer (16) V Konamme (6) M Henderson (4) D Matthewson (4) C Bain (2) D Gibbons (2) K McCrorie, I McGregor.

The U18 men were having their own tight game away at North Lanarkshire Chiefs in the Scottish Basketball Championship U18 Men Division Two.

The game was tight and in the final seconds the home side put up a buzzer beater that they thought had wont the game, but the officials decided a foot was on the line and it was just a tying two-point shot, not a three.

So the teams went into over-time where the earlier foul count took its toll and Ayr were down to just four players on court for the close-out.

This did not stop Douglas Bloomfield, with Chiefs forcing the Ayr players to shoot from distance, he hit not one but two big threes to take the lead and steel the win. FT: NL Chiefs 85 Ayr Storm 87.

Team: J Sergio (32pts) L Dunbar (20) J Allen (13) D Bloomfield (10) A Nair (8) J McMillan (2) G Lorimer (2). For coach Morrison the only downside was an injury to Jack Allen which will see him out for rest of the season.
