IT WAS another away game and another away defeat for Troon as the lost out 2-1 to Kilbirnie Ladeside, much to manager Gordon Burns’ disappointment writes Stephen Bark.

The Seasiders have picked up just one point from a possible 18 on the road this season and, for the second away match in a row, Troon have lost out 2-1 after conceding two cheap goals.

Ayr Advertiser:

The 38-year-old Troon gaffer knows his side are their own worst enemy.
Burns told Sportscene: “Any game we lose is disappointing but it is another away game and another defeat. Our away form just isn’t good enough. It’s a cause for concern.

“The two goals we lost are very cheap but if you keep giving away cheap goals then you are up against it from the start.

“We conceded two cheap goals against Largs and lost 2-1, now we’ve conceded two cheap goals against Kilbirnie and lost 2-1.”

The result leaves Troon sitting in eighth place with 13 points from their 11 games so far. However, undefeated Beith are two points behind with six games in hand with both Ladeside and Kilwinning Rangers within six points of the Seasiders and with two games in hand.

Burns knows where his team have to improve.

He said: “Not only are we conceding cheap goals, we aren’t taking our chances. That’s where we are struggling at the moment. No disrespect to the teams we are playing but they aren’t playing through and creating chances. We are giving them the opportunity and getting punished for it.

“When we are creating chances we need to take them.”

Next up for Troon is a tough home tie against Glenafton Athletic. The New Cumnock side sit second in the Super Premier Division, four points adrift of leaders Kirkintilloch Rob Roy and Burns knows it won’t be an easy home fixture.

He added: “They are flying high, second in the league and through to the next round in the Junior Cup so they on a good run of form at the moment.

“On our day we can beat anybody in our league but if we don’t reach those levels more often then we will struggle. Hopefully we can do that sooner rather than later.”
