GIRLS football is thriving in Troon with more than 30 participants signing up for weekly sessions arranged by Active Schools.

Volunteer coaches from local secondary schools and Ayrshire College deliver the sessions, which have introduced girls from across Troon to football, many for the first time.

Girls are also taking part in a number of four-a-side. festivals at Marr Playing Fields, giving players the chance to show off their skills in small-sided games designed to provide more touches of the ball, opportunities to make on-the-field decisions and, most importantly, make playing football fun

Coach Keiran McLaughlin has been working with the girls since August.

He said: “I have loved being part of this - we identified a demand for ‘girls only’ sessions and we are delighted with the popularity. The girls have really progressed throughout the year and some have even joined local girls clubs."

The club runs throughout school term times at Barassie Primary School on Thursdays, from 4.30pm until 5.30pm for P3 to P4 Girls and 5.15pm-6.15pm for P5 to P7 Girls.

New players are welcome.
