ONCE again, Troon will reverberate to the upbeat rhythms of ska this weekend.

Troon Concert Hall will on Saturday once again play host to Freckfest's popular Seaside Ska event, which celebrates a unique style of music.

Now into its fourth year, the musical festival brings the best in live ska to Ayrshire. Four great bands and 500 of the best-dressed music fans will attend the event, which is now firmly established as one of the best in the country. With two bars, a clothing stall and a train-friendly finish time, Seaside Ska 4 is guaranteed to be another cracker.

Headliners Esperanza have played every Seaside Ska to date. One of the most popular live acts around, they have played everywhere from the Clutha to the Barrowlands, sharing stages with well-known acts such as Toots & the Maytals, Bad Manners and The Beat.

Another act who are no no strangers to Troon are Capone & The Bullets. Regulars on the ska/mod/punk scene, they play both types of music – fast and faster. Augmented by a three piece horn section, they create a wonderful live sound.

Edinburgh’s Big Fat Panda have also played every Seaside Ska to date, playing a mixture of frantic uptempo originals and inspired ska-tinged covers. They are

guaranteed crowd pleasers.

Rounding off the bill are relative newcomers Aye ‘n Aye - a hard-working, no-nonsense multicultural outfit who play a brand of slightly mellower ska, they’re sure to kick the night off in fine style.

Between acts, the sounds will be provided by a DJ who’ll be spinning the finest in authentic, original Jamaican ska and reggae.

The ska crowd are easily the best-dressed crowd to attend live shows.

With a mixture of Crombies, Harringtons, Brutus shirts and vintage Levis, it’s quite a scene to see them dance as one to an old Prince Buster record. Everyone comes for the music, the dancing and, as corny as it may sound, to have a great night out. Seaside Ska will provide exactly that.
