MORE than 60 card game lovers flocked to Troon Old Parish Church to take part in a special fundraising event.

A bridge afternoon was held at the Ayr Street church a week past on Friday.

It saw some 68 bridge enthusiasts from Troon, Prestwick, Ayr, Kilmarnock and Irvine participate in a series of games in the Church Hall, which was previously the place of worship.

They were also served soup and sandwiches by the tea ladies who serve regularly in Troon Old Parish Church and home baking was also available.

The fundraising drive helped secure £1000 for the Steeple Restoration Fund.

As part of the project the church bell has been repaired and now rings on a Sunday morning.

Organisers will now turn their attention to repairing the clock tower.

Jean Morvan who helped organise the event said: "The bridge afternoon went really well and thanks to everyone for supporting it. We publicised it for a few weeks in the order of service and it attracted quite a lot of interest."
