A TROON grandfather of four is celebrating after putting his best foot forward by participating in a stamina-sapping charity walk.

Colin Ingram, 72, joined 7,200 others from across the West of Scotland at the 2017 Kiltwalk, which was held in Glasgow on Sunday, April 30.

It was the second time the retired computing lecturer had taken part in the money-spinning event.

He lined up two years ago and walked the shorter 15-mile course.

And his latest efforts are set to raise £350 for Troon Old Parish Church, where he is a member.

Colin said: "I was delighted to complete the course. I opted for the 23-mile walk from Glasgow Green to Balloch and it went fine, although it was tough-going for the last two or three miles when you concentrate on your legs. I met a lot of people along the route but it would have been nice to have someone to talk to right through the walk. I would like to to do it again but next time I will hopefully have someone with me.

"The weather conditions were excellent - it was nice and sunny but there was a good breeze."

The pensioner is registered blind and ran the inaugural Glasgow Marathon in 1982.

He is encouraged with his efforts and added: "I have raised around £350 which is what I had been hoping for, it's a good total. The money will go towards church funds and I understand it might help with the renovation of the clock tower. At least I can have a wee break from my training, I did a lot of preparation for the walk."
