ENVIRONMENTALLY-friendly Troon Rotary Club have teamed up with the other Ayrshire Rotary Clubs and South Ayrshire Council to participate in the 11th annual Beach Clean on Saturday, April 1.

Each year there has been great support from community groups for this wonderful project: Scouts, youth clubs, students, OIR, walking groups, friends and neighbours. All are welcome.

Volunteers are asked to wear something warm, sensible shoes and gardening gloves and South Ayrshire Council will provide black bags and transport.

The Ayrshire project in recent years has been responsible for uplifting more than 7000 bags.

In addition this year there is an opportunity to support the Marine Conservation Society's “Wild Bottle Sighting” nationwide survey.

Plastic bottles are the scourge of our beaches, and the challenge will be to provide a bottle count for each area and indeed send in photos of piles of bottles.

So here's your chance for bracing fresh air, exercise, good company and a superb chance to improve our local environment.

The Troon assembly point is at the site of the old toilet block at North Barassie at 9am on April 1.
