TROPHY-laden Paul Foster added another glittering item of silverware to his collection when he won the Just 2017 World Professional Championships in Norfolk on Sunday.

Now Councillor Nan McFarlane hopes to honour the ace.

The Troon father-of-four won the top prize in the sport for the fifth time overall, and the first time in six years, defeating Englishman Greg Harlow in a final set tie-break.

The taxi-owner is just one short of his best pal, Alex "Tattie" Marshall from West Lothian,

Foster, who celebrated with diet cokes on Sunday with a party planned at a later date, said: "Greg was always in control in the first set but I annihilated him in the second. I was pleased with how I played after the first set. My first title will always be the most special but it's great to win again. The World Championships are the pinnacle of my sport. But I'm not interested in chasing six titles."

Asked the key to his success the triple Commonwealth Games gold medallist said: "I played better and better as the tournament went on."

Congratulations have been pouring in for the bowler.

Councillor McFarlane said: "Hopefully the council can organise a civic reception for him."

Marr Rugby Club president Kevin Quinn said: "Paul Foster's success in winning his fifth World Indoors Bowls title is remarkable and everyone involved at Marr Rugby send him congratulations and good wishes for this outstanding achievement."

Troon FC manager Gordon Burns added: "It's a great personal achievement. I know Paul and it's great that someone who lives and works in the town is a world champion."
