FLIGHTS to and from Prestwick Airport have been cancelled as the Icelandic volcano causes more disruption.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and National Air Traffic Services (NATS) have announced the closure of the airspace due to the volcanic ash cloud which can cause severe engine problems.

This will mean that from 7am this morning until 7pm tonight the South Ayrshire airport will be closed.

According to the CAA: "We will provide an update to the situation and the list of airports tomorrow morning when further Met Office forecasts are available.

"The situation remains changeable, so passengers expecting to travel tomorrow from airports in Scotland, Northern Ireland, the north of England and North Wales should contact their airlines to check whether their flight is operating."
