ORGANISERS of Girvan Community Sports Hub are looking for volunteers so they can launch their weekly parkrun in the town.

The group were awarded £3000 from South Carrick Decides Participatory Budget in October which went towards a licence for the event.

Connor Watt, Project Coordinator, said: “We had out first meeting six weeks ago with a view to developing the club for people who live in Girvan and South Carrick.

“It will be a 5k course where anyone from the age of four and up can take part walking, jogging or running and will start at the Quay Zone.

“We are hoping once the competitors take part, they can enjoy a tea or a coffee at the Quay Zone.

“But before we can get started we need volunteers.

“We are still actively recruiting members of the public to help get this weekly event up and running.

“If you are free Saturday mornings and can spare an hour or two we would really appreciate your help.

“We will need marshals, timers and other roles to be filled. Once there are enough people we can get started.”

The Park Run is a free 5k event that will give people in South Carrick and beyond the opportunity to take part in a weekly timed walk/jog/run.

Once it is established anyone aged four years and above can take part but those aged between four – 11 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Parkrun is a UK wide organisation who organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world.

They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.

These events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings and the organisers encourage people of every ability to take part.

That includes everyone from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians.

From juniors to those with more experience everyone is welcome.

There is already a weekly parkrun through Rozelle in Ayr with Troon setting up one as well.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Connor on 01465714729 or alternatively by email: connor@z1girvan.org.uk

Details of the first parkrun will be advertised as soon as the date is confirmed.
