GIRVAN Primary School are delighted to have won a gold Sports Award Flag.

The pupils have been taking part in various activities including PE and other sports and celebrated their achievement last week.

A ceremony was held at the school on Wednesday, November 29 from 1.30pm until 2.50pm where the excited pupils were extremely proud of their achievements.

They have been getting involved in South Ayrshire Active Schools which aims to provide more and higher quality opportunities for children to participate in school sport and to increase capacity through the recruitment of volunteers who deliver the activity sessions.

South Ayrshire Active Schools aims to build capacity through the recruitment, retention and development of a network of volunteers to deliver sport in schools and the wider community.

The children at Girvan Primary have also had the chance to take part in The Competitive School Sports project which allows children in South Ayrshire to take part in local, regional and national competition opportunities.

The bronze, silver and gold sports awards formally recognise the school’s achievement in putting physical education and sport at the heart of their planning, practice and ethos.

They also highlight and celebrate successful physical education and school sport models across Scotland. 

The Sportscotland School Sport Award provides schools with the following benefits:

An online self assessment tool to identify current strengths and areas for improvement in PE and school sport,

A development plan template to improve any areas of weakness,
The opportunity to achieve national recognition with a Bronze, Silver or Gold Sportscotland School Sport Award.

Schools interested in gaining an award complete an initial self assessment which identifies if they are at Bronze or Silver. 

Schools who achieve 75 per cent or above will be able to apply for Gold.
It encourages schools to self reflect and continuously improve and puts young people at the forefront of the decision making and planning of PE and sport in their school.

Sportscotland School Sport award helps schools to increase young people’s opportunities and engagement in PE and school sport as well as helping them schools to PE and school sport at the heart of their planning, practice and ethos.

The gold Sports Award flag recognises and celebrates successful PE and school sport models within Girvan Primary School who have worked hard to achieve their goal.
