WALKING enthusiasts from Girvan and South Carrick have been taking part in a walk and talk group to raise money for Age Concern.

The group, which has been set up this summer, hope to meet at least once a month or twice a month in a bid to get members of the community fit, active and socialising.

The latest venture took walkers from Stumpy Tower to the community hospital and back to Age Concern on Duff Street.

David Gilmartin, who organised the group, explained: “We have set up a walk and talk group for Age Concern in Girvan which is open to all age groups.

“We want as many people to take part as possible and make the most of a three course lunch for £5 afterwards which is all home cooked food made by my fiancee Margaret.”

Age Concern in Girvan offers a three course lunch on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On aTuesday and a Thursday tea, coffee and sandwiches are on offer.

David continued: “The money all goes back in Age Concern to help with the costs and equipment for the walks.”

David organised the the first walk in July and we will have more information about future walks in our community news section in due course.
