COMPLETION of the former Clydesdale Bank on Ayr’s High Street into an indoor market and office block has been delayed.

It had been hoped the building would open this month but Ayr Renaissance has said it will be December before it reopens its doors.

Cllr Siobhian Brown explained: “We had hoped it would be open by Friday, October 6 but it will be December now before it is completed.

“We have had meetings and increased the board by two members. The demolition of the Riverside Block is completed and is eight weeks ahead of schedule.

“The plans for the riverside block are not set in concrete and plans can change as there is cope for consideration after the discovery of important archaeological finds.”

There are also a talks of a tourist trail highlighting the heritage of Ayr which will include talking benches.

Cllr Brown continued: “The trail has been held up as there are problems with the MP3s but it still going ahead.”

At a public meeting chairman, Norman McLean, asked: “Has there been a decision about what is going to happen to the empty shops? It has been a domino effect.”

Cllr Brown responded: “We have a vision for Ayr for the next 15-20 years. We need to create life but that is not going to happen over night.

The council are aware of this.

“There are so many groups which want to help the town but they don’t speak to Ayr Renaissance. It is great people want to get involved but we all need to work together.”

Tam Fest will run at the end of the month which is hoped will bring money into the town and encourage locals and tourists to visit.
