A LEARNER driver who lost control of his car, crashing into another vehicle injuring three people, has been banned from the road.

Conner McClung, of Ayr’s Low Road owned up to driving dangerously and in an erratic manner at excessive speeds along Seafield Road and Hunters Avenue in Ayr, before losing control and crashing into the other car on January 2 this year.

The 19-year-old drove under a provisional driver’s licence, without supervision or ‘L’ plates or insurance. He appeared before Sheriff John Montgomery at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor, Tony Currie, said: “The background report does not paint a good picture of him.

“I have spoken to his family about this, you had raised concern with the person writing the report.

“I would ask you to defer sentence again to allow someone else you carry out the report.”

Addressing the dock, Sheriff Montgomery said: “It is not for you to decide who interviews you and who doesn’t. It is up to you answer the questions.

“Bare that in mind - you are skating on think ice.”

McClung has been disqualified, temporarily, from the roads. His sentence has been deferred until next month.
