THE WOMAN behind Girvan Farmer's Market, is looking to create a community farm to supply produce at the weekly gathering.

With help from What if ...Girvan, the market was set up by, Pearl McGibbon, who has been in business her whole life and was looking for a new adventure.

The weekly event launched earlier this year and saw 150 people attend the Town House on its first day.

Pearl explained: "We started this venture on Good Friday this year and I am really pleased with the outcome so far. On our first day it was really busy, with at least 150 people there.

"Every week, we see at least 50 people coming to the town. There are a mixture of individuals and tour groups who visit. On a nice day we set up in the garden of the Town House and when it is too wet we run the event indoors."

Pearl, who is now 70, had worked in retail and was involved in creating window displays. She wanted to get back into the world of businesses.

She added: "You either get older or keep busy.

"We want to try and grow our own produce for the event, which takes place every Friday. Hopefully, we will be able to set up a community farm, where we will be able to grow our own fruit and veg.

"There are people who come every week, fortnight and month. Everything we sell is home grown but we would love even more people to come, rent a table for £15, and get involved.

"This is all about promoting small local businesses. There are many local people who do not always know who to do that but they want to get involved in the market.

"If we set up a community farm, we will grow even more of our own produce."

The market runs every Friday from 10am until 3.30pm in the Town House on Girvan's Knockcushan Street. Those who attend will be able to browse through a selection of fresh bread home baked cakes jams and chutneys tea and coffee.

Stalls cost £15 to rent. Check out their facebook page - Girvan Farmer's Market.
