Businessman cleared of bat attack on 'addict'

A LICENSEE and property developer has been acquitted of carrying out a vicious vigilante baseball bat attack on a thieving heroin addict who was found lurking in the cellar of his pub and later that same day was charged with stealing from one of his flats.

The verdict at Ayr Sheriff Court last week brought to an end a "nightmare" eight months for businessman Steven Lyle, during which he has had the prospect of a lengthy jail sentence hanging over him.
