Private companies can now bid to run Prestwick's search and rescue base

BIDS are being sought by the UK government for private companies to take over Prestwick's HMS Gannet.

The future of Prestwick as a base for search and rescue operations is up in the air once more as the procurement process, Westminster announced last year, to privatise the service opened with the RAF and Royal Navy ceasing operations in 2015.
