A NUMBER of roads were closed in Troon on Tuesday afternoon as flood alerts were issued for coastal areas of the town after high winds took their toll for the second time inside a week.
The chaos came at high tide from 2pm with water cascading off the seawall onto roads and pavements.
Troon Police Inspector Paul Seditas said: "High tide combined with high winds has been causing localised flooding after water came over the sea wall at high tide. The problems affected North Beach Road and South Beach. A number of roads have been closed, including Wood Road, Titchfield Road and Braden Road and South Beach along at the car park near the golf course and we are keeping an eye on the situation. We are putting out cones but they keep blowing away."
A statement on the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency website read: "A combination of high tides and storm surge conditions in the Firth of Clyde will result in a high risk of some localised coastal flooding at the Troon North Beach Road area during this afternoon. The effect of waves and spray is likely to be significant along exposed coastal areas, especially around high tide at 2pm. Areas at risk are low lying areas around Troon North Beach Road and coastal roads and railways in the area.
"Remain vigilant and remember it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property. Advice and information is available through Floodline on 0845 9881188. Several parents from Troon Primary School have also been advised to pick up their children early.
Ayr is also suffering from the gale force winds and high tide levels.
