RECENTLY, Mr Brian Whittle the local MSP came along to meet the Girvan Rotarians at their weekly meeting in the Royal Hotel Girvan.
Brian was born in 1964 and grew up in Troon. His father was a sprinter and ran until his late teens, but other than that his family background was not overly sporty.
As a boy, Brian tried a wide range of sports, enjoying many of them. He maintains that his talent lay in his ability to train and this led to gold success at two European Athletics Championships.
However as a MSP he came along to Girvan to talk about ‘what he does all day’ in his role.
To a very busy crowd Brain talked about his day to day work in the Scottish Parliament , his work with groups in the Community , the visiting and listening to concerns of his constituents and his responsibilities for health education, lifestyle and sport.
Many questions were answered by Brian and improvements to the A77 became part of that discussion.
Most of the audience were unaware that Maybole’ s new bypass is only to be a single lane in each direction,
This would seem to be short-sighted.
Girvan Rotary would like to thank Mr Whittle for taking the time to come to Girvan and talk to us.
It enabled the Rotarians to ask all the questions that have been niggling for months. They hope Brian enjoyed his meal at the Royal Hotel and that he found the Girvan hospitality special.
