APPROVAL has been given for a sliproad from Doonholm Road onto the Bypass.

Members of the community in Alloway have been asking the Ayrshire Roads Alliance and Transport Scotland to create a sliproad on the grounds of health and safety.

David Manson of the Ayrshire Roads Alliance attended the Alloway and Doonfoot community council last Tuesday, June 5 and confirmed the new junction had been ‘signed off’.

Mr Manson explained: “The Doonholm Road junction has been signed off but it is still sitting with Transport Scotland and we need that piece of paper back so work can begin.

“The funding is already in place for it.”

The Ayrshire Roads Alliance have been in discussions with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) who previously agreed to put up funding, for the left hand lane filter, as long as the Alliance matched it.

Kevin Braidwood, Head of the Ayrshire Roads Alliance, previously told the community council: “We have made good progress regarding the filter lane onto the A77 and have managed to get funding from SPT.

“Designs will take place this financial year and contract work will hopefully take place the following year for 2018/19.”

The community council have been campaigning for several years for a new junction on Doonholm Road and Maybole Road.

Donald Wilson said:“Something has to be done before someone gets killed.

“You see so many very near accidents.

“You see traffic coming from the south and you have to poke your nose right out there to see.”

It is hoped the sliproad will be completed by the end of the year.
