THE fourth Armed Forces Day in Girvan will be held at Stumpy Tower at the end of the month.

The event will take place at 1pm on Saturday, June 23 to show support for Armed Forces past, present and future in Girvan and South Carrick.

Local resident, and Veteran, Bobby Sweeney said: “This event has now been running since 2015 and is an opportunity to show our appreciation and support for our Armed Forces past, present and future in Girvan and South Carrick.

“The service being planned is not a Remembrance Service but a Flag Raising event.”

The Flag Raising Ceremony will commence at 1pm at Stumpy Tower to the sound of the pipes. The Rev. Ian McLachlan will then provide some introductory words and a prayer following the raising of the Armed Forces Flag under the supervision of Roddy and Irene Leitch.

Colonel John Dalrymple-Hamilton, Vice Lord Lieutenant, will conclude the event with a Vote of Thanks. All present will thereafter be invited back to the Girvan Town House for some tea and cake.

It is anticipated that Veterans will be joined by local and national politicians, local uniformed youth groups and members of the public. All will be made most welcome.

Girvan Town Team coordinator Roddy MacDonald said: “It will be a significant local event and I would encourage as many groups and individuals as possible to congregate at Stumpy Tower at 1pm to celebrate Armed Forces Day here in Girvan.

"I am particularly keen that representatives from the various uniformed youth groups in Girvan and South Carrick are represented on the day.”

Any uniformed youth group which wishes to be part of the celebration should contact Roddy by email roddymacdonaldayr@gmail.com or by telephone on 07720540083.
