A MAN pestered his ex with constant text messages for more than two years.

Darren Davidson of Duncan Street Girvan repeatedly made unwanted telephone calls, text messages, left unwanted voicemail messages for her and wrote unwanted letters to her home address between November 2015 and December 2017.

The 46-year-old approached the woman’s partner at Girvan Harbour Bar act aggressively, utter abusive remarks and challenged him to a fight.

Davidson appeared before Sheriff Carole Cunninghame at Ayr Sheriff Court last week. The court heard how the accused and the complainer had been in a relationship for 17 years.

Depute Fiscal Lindsay Bain said: “Davidson moved out and the woman started a knew relationship. The accused made continuous attempts to contact the complainer but she made it clear she did not want to be contacted by him.

“But Davidson continued to contact her, declaring his love for her. The woman changed her mobile number and her home phone number.”

But Davidson got her number and continued to message her.

Ms Bain continued: “The complainer received more messages and asked him not to contact her. In May 2017 the complainer and her partner were out in Girvan.

“Davidson entered the Harbour Bar and challenged the man to a fight. In October 2017 the woman received a phone call but didn’t answer. The accused left a voicemail which said I will love you for ever and ever and ever.

“She received another message which said he was going to propose to her on her 40th birthday. The complainer phoned the police in December 2017.”

Speaking on his behalf defence solicitor Tony Currie said: “He failed to recognise the harm his course of conduct was having. He had great difficulty accepting his relationship had come to an end and that his partner had entered into another one.

“He had too much time on his hands and was mulling over everything.”
Addressing the dock Sheriff Cunninghame said: “Your behaviour was over a prologued period of time and you were fixated with her. This had adverse affects on her health and wellbeing.”

Sentence has been deferred.
