FRIENDS of Girvan Academy are supporting the school to develop its Uniform Bank.

They are looking for new or nearly new items which can be gifted to families who are experiencing financial difficulties.

Items they are looking for include: black trousers for boys and girls, black skirts, school poloshirts and sweatshirts, white shirts and blouses and black jumpers and cardigans.

Other items are winter jackets, school shoes, PE kit, trainers and school bags. All recycled clothing will be sorted, laundered and packed by volunteer school staff. All new S1 pupils and S4 pupils will receive a school tie.

Posting in social media, Friends of Girvan Academy, said: “Some families in our community struggle financially.

Providing appropriate clothes for school can be a worry, not just at the start of the school year but also as children outgrow clothes as the year progresses or replacement clothes are needed for ones which are worn or damaged.

“As a part of the community, we want to minimise this worry on families and children. Therefore, do you have any new or good quality school clothes that could be donated to our Uniform Bank?”
