ONE year after it launched, Girvan Community Market, have been working with ethical brand specialist BOLD to develop a new look.
The new look brand aims to place the Girvan Community Market firmly on the map.
BOLD’s heritage is rooted in the social enterprise movement and they’ve built a specialism through continuing to work with ethical and mission led organisations, large and small, from frontline charities to commercially focused social businesses, community based groups to socially responsible brands.
Pearl McGibbon has been in business all her life and following retirement, aged 70, she was looking for a new adventure. With help from What If...Girvan, Pearl has organised a weekly indoor community market, based in the Town House, Girvan.
The weekly event launched during Easter in 2017 and saw 150 people attend on its first day.
The market allows local producers, as well as artists and craft makers, to get their products in front of both locals and visitors.
Pearl wants the market to help bring Girvan back as a destination for tourists and holidaymakers. As part of her future plans, Pearl is also looking to create a community farm to supply more fresh produce at the weekly gathering.
Pearl explained: “I am really pleased with the outcome so far. Everything we sell is home grown and handmade.
“This is all about promoting small local businesses. If we set up a community farm, we will grow even more of our own produce.”
The market has now opened for 2018 and runs every Friday from 10am until 3.30pm in the Town House on Girvan’s Knockcushan Street.
