TIME is running out to have your say on the future of Ayr’s Riverside.

If South Ayrshire Council do not withdraw their plans, a planning application for council offices, with an element of public space will be discussed on Wednesday, May 9.

Gemma Jones, who is backing the Advertiser’s campaign for a history centre to be included in the proposals sent us her ideas for the area at the bottom of the High Street.

Gemma would include an underground Heritage Site, greenspace as well as including a smaller building for offices and a community centre. Readers have been suggesting what they would like to see at the Ayr’s Riverside.

Chris Kirk said: “How about, instead of the offices, a small cafe/restaurant using locally produced food with the heritage centre below that? Could have an outdoor seating area.”

Steven Mackie commented: “It does sound a really good idea, whilst opening up the riverside while they are at it to look at the river from the cafe. Only thing I think that people would disagree with is that there are far too many pubs, restaurants, and cafes in the town and would take money away from them.”

Carolyn Buchanan suggested: “A heritage site and restaurants not poxy council offices.”

Sandra Wood said: “A fishing museum and farming museum.”

Alexander Mcdonald commented: “What about something like the Edinburgh dungeons? Combine the tale of Sawney Bean the lost piper from Culzean castle and other Ayrshire myths and legends.”

Kelly Cruickshanks said: “An amphitheatre or picnic area might be a good idea.”
