ON April 7, Girvan Rotary will be organising their annual Girvan Beach Clean and we know that the weather will be good.
Our picking teams like to get the beach looking good for the summer visitors and we are asking any locals who are like minded to meet us at Ainsley Car Park in Girvan at ten thirty in the morning.
We will walk along the beach to the harbour, picking up all the litter we can find, so come along with suitable weather attire, boots and gloves if you have them.
We will provide Pickers and Bags and if we have loads of people it will take about an hour.
Last weekend we went out along the beach to assess the amount of litter we are likely to encounter and we met local people enjoying the beach, the promenade and the fresh air.
Each thanked us for our efforts and hoped we would have a good turnout.
On that day other Ayrshire Rotary clubs will be cleaning sections of other Ayrshire beaches.
They will cover beaches at Newton, Bentfield, Heads of Ayr, Fisherton, Dunure, Croy, Turnberry, Dunnymuck, Chapledonan, Doonfoot, Craig Tara, Prestwick, Troon and Barassie.
All in all a big effort so if any of these are closer and you would like to join them please do so.
Girvan beach is a beautiful stretch of sand and if you arrived as a tourist you would initially be very impressed, however as you step on to the beach and see the quantity of ‘rubbish’ you might change your mind a little, so so why not put aside an hour on April 7 and give them a hand.
