CRISIS meetings were held in Ayr for Carillion workers who face losing their jobs after the company went into liquidation.
A further 452 workers have been made redundant following the collapse of construction and outsourcing giant Carillion.
The job losses are in addition to 377 announced last week, taking the total so far to more than 800.
On Friday, February 2, Unite Scotland demanded that the Scottish government act to end uncertainty on public sector contracts across Scotland.
Carillion went into liquidation on January 15 putting tens of thousands of jobs at risk across the UK. In Scotland the total job losses if the Carillion supply chain is included will run to several thousand.
Unite Scotland understands the wages of those still working on former Carillion contracts stopped on January 31.
Workers were able to speak to the union reps at the meetings. Legal advice and assistance was also available for all those who attended.
Unite officer Stevie Dillon said: “What is happening to these workers is totally unacceptable. They must not be left to pay the price for the Carrillion collapse.
“These meetings are set to assess where we are and demand answers from the administrators and Scottish Government. It’s time for answers and it’s time for wages to be guaranteed.”
The Carillion campaign is part of a Unite campaign across the entire construction industry in the UK. This aims to build the union and so protect workers from the current exploitation so many evidently suffer from companies like Carillion.
