A PLANNING application been lodged for an indoor skate park in Ayr.
The proposed site is located at Boundary Road and it is understood that this building has been vacant for a number of years which has fallen “into disrepair” with an “infestation of pigeons” and vegetation growing on the roof.
The applicant, Craig Maxwell of Shred Skatepark, previously had a successful temporary application granted for the site for an indoor skatepark, however, the temporary three-year permission has now come to an end – the applicant now wishes to continue this.
In a supporting statement, Mr Maxwell explains: “It is suggested that the plans meet many of the council’s objectives for the Ayrshire area.
“For example, it meets the objective to increase the level of economic activity within South Ayrshire, as the skatepark would bring many new people to the area.
“We would also like to work in conjunction with your Active Schools objectives to increase opportunities for all children and young people to be engaged in physical activity and sport in the community.”
It was recommended to Mr Maxwell for the site to create 30 parking spaces, with two spaces for disabled users, with this being sufficient enough given that many of the users of the indoor skatepark are below driving age as well as the site being reached by bike or foot, due to it being in close proximity to bus routes and train stations.
After looking at seven other potential sites for the indoor skatepark to progress, it was decided that Boundary Road would be the ideal location.
