THE condition of Longhill Avenue in Ayr has been described as ‘atrocious’.

Residents have raised concerns about the traffic islands sitting on the bends of the road are hazardous and hard for drivers to see oncoming traffic and pedestrians.

Street signs and lights seem to be hidden by overgrown trees and bushes at the side of the road. The issue was discussed at a public meeting recently.

Ian Duncanson said: “You cannot see the traffic islands or the road signs because they are overgrown by trees. Nor can you see the street lights.

“We are reacting on behalf of our fellow residents who have raised concerns. We are more than happy to try and help. We can try and help do something about it.

“This just goes on and on and nothing has been done about it.”
One resident commented: “I have never seen anything like Longhill Avenue in all my life. You have got traffic islands near the bends.

“It is atrocious. but the speed bumps have slowed down the traffic.”
Residents have already been made aware of four speed cameras which are to be put in place along Longhill Avenue in a bid to address speeding.

This was confirmed at a public meeting recently by Kevin Braidwood of Ayrshire Roads Alliance. Traffic Islands and speed bumps have already been installed to address the problem.

Chairwoman Marilyn Dalgleish said: “When it comes to right way, people break the rules. There is flooding too.”

Concerns were also raised about cyclists on the route who don’t have enough space.

Kevin Braidwood said: “I will get someone to look into this.”
