A MAN who was found unconscious on an Ayr street with a knife in his pocket has been caged for 21 months.
Stewart Hastings, a prisoner of Kilmarnock, admitted being in possession of the lock knife in April this year on Cowan Crescent Ayr.
The 30-year-old appeared before Sheriff Carole Cunninghame at Ayr Sheriff Court last week. The court heard how police received an anonymous phone call, at 3:45pm regarding Hastings.
Depute Fiscal Jacob Tomnay said: “Officers found him under the influence of an unknown substance. They found the lock back knife in his pocket. The knife, which had a three inch blade, was seized.”
Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor, Ian Gillies said: “He was taken to hospital at the time and does not know where the knife came from.”
Addressing the dock Sheriff Cunninghame, said: “No sentence other than a custodial one is appropriate.”
The knife will be destroyed.
