HUNDREDS of people took to the paths of Prestwick for Alzheimer Scotland’s Memory Walk.

The wind, waves and rain didn’t dampen the spirits of those who took part in the walk along Prestwick Esplanade on Sunday, September 10.

People of all ages and animals of all types walked, ran and trotted along the route.

Community fundraiser for Alzheimer Scotland, Amy McLaughlan, said: “The event went really well and I am so pleased.

“142 registered for the walk and I’m so happy about it because we have never had one in South Ayrshire so it was a great turn out for being the first memory walk there.

“We used the Sailing Club as the venue and they had been great.

“There has been lots of support from people and from the Belhaven Day Centre who came along with water and snacks for the volunteers, who also done a great job.

“We are always dog friendly on our walks which we always encourage and someone got in contact with me to bring their pony so everyone was really pleased to see the pony on the walk.

“It was full of people of all ages and abilities and the walk was 4.2km and took everyone in a loop around the promenade.

“We raised £1100 on the day and we are still to get the money from the sponsorship to come in.

“I want to thank everyone for coming along and especially the Sailing Club and Dementia Friendly Prestwick who have been an amazing support – they have gone above and beyond for us.”

There will be another Memory Walk taking place in Saltcoats, North Ayrshire on Sunday, September 24. For more information on this, you can visit http://memorywalksscotland.org/our-walks/north-ayrshire-saltcoats-memory-walk/
