A PLANNING application has been submitted to South Ayrshire Council to install LED lights at Girvan’s Stumpy Tower this Christmas.

This would involve the installation of LED rope lights, annually, using stainless steel cup hooks and closing a small section of the footpath during the short duration of the works.

A guide will escort any pedestrians requiring access within the area when it is safe to do so with a first aid kit on site situated within East Ayrshire Council Vehicle.

In recent years, the Girvan Attractions Committee have been able to raise funds to renovate the inside of the Tower with information boards on the history of Girvan and surrounding areas.

They have strived to make it more interactive with paintings by local artists and the use of mannequins to bring the history to life.

There are now four floors for the public to view free of charge. If the application is successful there would be no change of use for the facility.

The application to instal LED lights at Stumpy on Dalrymple Street throughout December has yet to be discussed by council members.

A decision will be made in due course.
