FRESHAYR has seen up to 300 people attend their events since their official launch in July.

The project had its first open day on Saturday, July 15 where volunteers and contributors presented visitors various on-going developments.

Among them was the new shop, an exhibition centre and gallery, various workshops, performance spaces, and a cafe which is hoped to become a bar.

'FreshAyr' is a creative regeneration project to breathe new life into making Ayr a creative marketplace to serve Ayrshire, Scotland and International appetites for sustainable, renewable and ethical creative enterprises.

Their latest art exhibition took place on Friday, September 1.

Project coordinator, Herbie Hansen, explained: "The first couple of events were very well attended. There were about 300 people coming and going over the two days.

"I am launching another exhibition in October. The age groups are varied and some people are coming because they were regulars at Queens Court before the change so they are curious to see what is going on.

"Other people have come because they are interested about FreshAyr. Our cafe is run by volunteers who are artists using the project as a platform for their art.

"We are hosting silent films, gigs and a craft fayre on the first Saturday of every month. I am very optimistic about this project and everyone has been extremely helpful.

"There is a board forming in the next two weeks. Everyone is doing a really good job and there are so many people wanting to help out. They cafe is open every day except Sundays.

"We want a licence so we can turn it into a bar during events. They money we raise from the cafe and events is put to good use to keep the project going and to organise other occasions."

Cllr Chris Cullen visited Queens Court last Wednesday to see what FreshAyr was all about. He was shown around the various buildings which are used for the exhibitions and live music.

There is an exciting event scheduled for October but we will have more information on that nearer the time.
