THE inaugural Airshow Charity Ball raised a staggering £35,000 for the #BUYMSH appeal.

Friday's event was held at the low green to continue the campaign to create a holiday home for children suffering cancer and other illnesses.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Nigel Martin, said: "We are grateful for all the support for this campaign. There seems to be a lot of commitment to raising money for the holiday home and we are making progress.

"We want to thank you for all your support tonight and many thanks goes to the dynamic Maxine Allan and the rest of the team for putting this event together."

DJ Colin McArdle hosted the event which sported a three course meal, live entertainment, an action and dancing into the early hours.
Special guests Lesley and Megan Finn attended the event.

Megan and her family stayed at the former Malcolm Sargent House when Megan was recovering from cancer.

Speaking on Friday night, her mum Lesley, said: "Megan was just three years old when she found out she had a tumour in her left kidney.

"We want to share her story. We became friends with other families who were in the same situation as us. Some lost their battle but we never lost touch with their parents and other survivors.

"Megan's sister Alex was seven when Megan was diagnosed. Their other sister, Jess was just seven months old. We had good family support but I couldn't take Alex to school or shopping because Megan needed constant care.

"We have taken part in the boxing day dip. Megan had her hair cut into a bob so her illness would not be as noticeable. Her sister did the same and together they raised £50,000 for cancer charities.

"I am so proud of my girls and Megan is cancer free."

Megan then sang, The sun will come out tomorrow and received a standing ovation.

In a bid to raise £20,000 an auction was held were guests bid on a Frank Sinatra painting, 'Legend' Bomber print and Imitation Floor Boards.

Organisers are overwhelmed at the the support they received on Friday night and want to thank everyone who helped set up the event and donated prizes.

They said: "We appreciate each and every one who helped us raise this money."
