THE A77 will be closed this weekend, north of Stena, from  8pm on Friday, September 1 to 6am Monday, September 4 for road repairs.

Work has been specifically scheduled out with the peak summer period, following discussions with ferry companies, community representatives and Police Scotland

The poor condition of the carriageway, and continuing deterioration of the road surface means that the urgent repair of the defects is ever more pressing.

Potholes are appearing and being repaired on an increasingly frequent basis as the carriageway continues to deteriorate, with partial repair possible only to those more shallow defects.

The A77 Action Group have advised drivers of an alternative route they can take during the closures.

They say drivers should allow at least 90 minutes southbound between Girvan to Newton Stewart as it took 40 minutes with a clear road then journey onto Stranraer or Cairnryan ferry ports.

There will four overnight closures from 8pm on Monday, September 4 until 6am Friday, September 8.
