A MAN has been caged for three months after he was found wandering the car park of Cumnock Police Station, breaking his bail conditions.

Robert McPheators, of Linden Avenue Girvan, was originally granted bail on May 25 of this year with a condition that he was to remain within a house in Campbell Court, Ayr, between 7am and 7pm, however, the following morning of May 26, he was found in Cumnock Police Station’s car park.

The 38-year-old appeared from custody in front of Sheriff John Montgomery at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Depute Fiscal, Kevin Jarvis, explained: “At around 7:30pm, a police witness was made aware of the accused in Cumnock Police Station’s car park by an anonymous caller.

“The police approached the accused, who was heavily under the influence of drink or drugs.

“He was placed under arrested and taken to Crosshouse Hospital.

“There, it was made aware that he had taken Valium.

“He remained in the hospital overnight and then discharged to the police.”

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor Mr Logan, said: “This is a spectacular breach of bail.

“He was out in Girvan and met someone who presented him with drugs and he then came to Cumnock to get the drugs.

“He gave all of the money that he had and was therefore stranded in Cumnock.

“He doesn’t honestly know why he was at the police station and he cannot give a reasonable explanation to why he was there.

“He understands what his record is like.”

Sheriff Montgomery sentenced McPheators to three months in prison.
