THE STREETS of Ayr are set to be pounded by runners later this month.

Plans are well underway for the new Ayr Running Festival, with participants getting ready steady go!

The event will involve a Flat 10k and a family run of the Lang Scots Mile.

The iconic ‘Lang Scots Mile‘ will be raced for the first time as part of the build up to the Scottish International Airshow and starts on Saturday, August 26.

It will take runners from the Citadel Leisure Centre to the Esplanade on Ayr’s seafront.

Ayr Advertiser:

The route itself will be marked out along the promenade between Miller’s Folly on Cromwell’s Fort and Blackburn car park.

The main event, is a Flat 10k, which is known to be the fourth flattest in the UK and the flattest in Scotland and will happen on Sunday, August 27.

The race starts underneath the race gantry opposite the Low Green, heading up the seafront on the Lang Scots Mile for a flat, fast start.

It then turns right onto the cycle path heading towards the river and after a short run it takes a right turn up Fort Street, for a small rise, running through the outskirts of Ayr centre.

It then continues on a small downhill section onto Race Course Road, eventually turning into Blackburn Road for an out and back section before returning to the main road at Race Course Road.

Once back onto the main road, you continue down the flat straight road until you reach the garage turning right alongside the river path and here you continue the seafront path, for a long and flat finish stretch.

All races are run on closed road traffic free courses. For more information, visit http://www.tsia.scot/ayr-running-festival/
