SOUTH Ayrshire’s Police Division deployed additional officers in Ayr and Prestwick to support the launch of its Safe Summer campaign.

With the new Safe Summer legislation in place, it is referred to a legislative search in relation to drugs, as well as targeting antisocial behaviour and disorder involving young people.

When carrying out searches in Ayr and Prestwick last week, police were issuing receipts containing information of the date, time and what power was enforced to carry out the search.

Police officers and South Ayrshire’s Community Safety Group will be engaging with youth groups and diversionary activities, such as street sports.

With the increasing good weather and local school holidays beginning, police often see an increase in reports of antisocial behaviour and disorder involving young people so during the high profile campaign, local officers will be working closely with colleagues from South Ayrshire Council and alongside other members of the South Ayrshire Community Safety Partnership to reduce incidents of disorder and anti-social behaviour.

Chief Inspector Gary I’Anson, said: “The summer can be an exceptionally busy time for our officers as we see an increase in visitors to the local area as well as an increase in youth disorder incidents.

“The aim of this campaign will be to improve engagement with youth groups and we will be working with South Ayrshire Council to provide diversionary activities throughout the summer period.”

If you are aware of antisocial or disorder issues within your area please visit your local police office or inform themby contacting 101.
