‘BROTHERLY love’ got the better of a man who shouted at his sibling’s upstairs neighbour following an assault.

William Thomson, of Woodland Crescent Ayr, was apprehended by police for shouting and swearing at his brothers upstairs neighbour in Wellington Street, Prestwick on February 2.

The 48-year-old appeared before Sheriff Robert Weir at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Procurator Fiscal, Scott Toal, said: “The accused was visiting his brother and at 7pm he was under the influence of alcohol.

“His brother then suggested that he should go home.

“When he was leaving, he started shouting up at a window of his brothers neighbour.

“The neighbour was being pointed at and the accused said, ‘No one threatens my brother, get f*****g down here.’

“Police officers attended and they apprehended the accused and when questioned the accused he said that he hadn’t threatened anyone.”

Speaking on his clients behalf, defence solicitor Steven Maxwell, said: “Mr Thomson’s brother had been the subject of a serious assault and he received serious injuries from this.

“You could say that brotherly love got the better of my client and made threats.

“He hasn’t been in trouble for six or seven years.

“Bail would be good in these conditions or for the sentence to be continued on good behaviour.”

Sheriff Robert Weir concluded: “It has been some years since you were in trouble in 2010 so I am going to to order the sentence to continue on good behaviour.”

The court deferred Thomson’s sentence from him to reappear in November 2017 on the grounds of good behaviour.
