GIRVAN residents have been working with the Tartan Jigsaw project in a bid to explore its digital reality and develop the town.

This month the project delivered its first augmented reality hangout, a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user’s view of the real world, and provides a 3D image.

Tartan Jigsaw are throwing themselves into technology and innovation for tourism and rural places.

Fed up of a traditional approach to place regeneration they have now started their own time travel project in the south west of Scotland with Gillian Savage leading the way in Girvan.

A spokesperson for the project said: “We are over-the-moon to welcome Gillian Savage to our team in Girvan and we can’t wait to start our programme of events to help the whole town explore the possibilities of digital.

“Our project has already generated interest from tech partners in other places and we are delighted to be the Scottish trial partner for Blippar, the visual discovery app which uses augmented reality, machine learning and artificial intelligence to bring the physical world to life through smartphones and other technology.

“Whether designing Scotland’s first whole island Business Improvement District or identifying new augmented reality offers for Scottish towns and tourism destinations, we are keen to share our straightforward way of working with others looking to create better places.”

With over 20 years of experience, their aim is to inspire communities to develop new ways of promoting tourism and economic growth by using virtual reality technology.

It is hoped these workshops, which have been held in Girvan, will inspire local entrepreneurs to take the next step and residents to get involved with projects in the town.

Their main aim is to create a better town by specialising in regeneration, heritage and tourism. They work creatively with people who want things to improve

They have teamed up with ‘Future Girvan Unwritten’. For more information, check out their Facebook pages.
