GIRVAN'S Town Team have secured almost £40,000 from European Leader Funding allowing them to take the next steps in their Tartan Jigsaw venture.

'Tartan Jigsaw' is a project which will allow locals to interact with their surrounds and put the town back on the map, making it the ultimate holiday destination in South Ayrshire.

The Town Team have teamed up with the scheme and found out recently that they had been successful in their funding application and have been awarded £36,000.

During the year long project there will be discussions with the Girvan community, workshops and story telling ideas to see how locals want to develop their town through the mobile app.

Ros Halley, Managing Director, said: "We hope that after a year of discussing how the app should look, we will then be able to go ahead and create it. This is something completely novel and different for the community.

"The Girvan Town Team have donated £1000 which means we still need to raise £3000 over the next three months to create the augmented reality app.

"We want to see how people would use technology to develop their town. It has to move forward from the traditional seaside town."

It is hoped that at the end of the year the plans will be put into action. Tartan Jigsaw are looking at Crowdfunding for funding as well as various other firms and companies.

The groups hope that Girvan will be back on track to turn into a vibrant and thriving town as a result of the programme.
